About
Hi, I’m Bill, thank you for visiting Scale Model Craft. I created the name to represent three things; Scale for miniatures, Model for the subject, and Craft for the skills i’ve had to learn to do this crazy stuff.
Scale Model Craft is a new venture after spending the last 30 years in the Manufacturing and CAD/CAM Software business.
Begun purely as a hobby, my woodworking and diorama work have recently been featured in magazines (x4), the local news, and shared through volunteering and live demonstrations.
I am a proud member of IPMS-Seattle, (International Plastic Modelers Society) and NWSM, (Northwest Scale Modelers) at the Museum of Flight in Seattle Washington.
The first wood scale model I built was a ships hull out of some scrap cedar I had after remodeling our first home. I glued a bunch of the cedar together in a big block, then went at it with a hammer and chisel.
It would be expected for me to say it was terrible being my first try… but it turned out great! I contoured and shaped the hull carefully, added decking, a small cabin, and finally a wooden scaffolding to support it like it was in dry dock. It turned out to be a very nice mantle piece.
Needless to say, I have been at it ever since. Ive learned a lot, and now want to share all of it with you. Look for How-to and Project build video’s on my YouTube channel, as well as instagram for frequent updates.
I will link a marketplace for items in the future, as well as welcoming commission inquiries.
Thank you and I hope you like what you see.
Bill
